EDIT: I do not any longer recommended this controller, while the motion control works fantastic the pointer only appears half the time when trying to play titles like Metroid and Mario Galaxy, this totally ruins the experience. I thought it maybe was a fault product but I had it exchanged and the new one still suffers from the same problem.

This controller quite frankly makes other wiimotes a waste of time. It is more ergonomically friendly than the Nintendo versions, it has better grip and feel and looks better too (ok ok I know that at least is a bit subjective). The main selling point is that it comes with full wii motion plus technology and ability built in. No need to buy the accessory as you would have to with other controllers including Nintendo’s, therefore no need for the added weight or oversized cases which would be otherwise necessary.
So far I cannot complain about the performance of this controller either, it works as advertised……………. quite well.
My recommendation is that those who have other controllers already, simply buy the wii motion plus accessory. Those in the market for a new or extra wiimote …….. buy this.

I bought the Wand+ from Gamestop as it was the first place I could buy it from since Amazon was only doing pre-orders at the time. My main desire for getting this was to eliminate the MotionPlus add-on so I could use my wireless Nunchuks without having to modify the MotionPlus to fit my wireless receiver.
I was disappointed to find that the Nyko wireless Kama caused the Wand+ not to respond correctly in Wii Sports Resort. It didn’t think the MotionPlus was enabled with the Kama. Upon attaching a wired Nunchuk it recognized everything without a problem.
This meant I had to search for a wireless Nunchuk that would work correctly, and I did find such a Nunchuk (Wii Wireless Controller – Black). I am now happy that I can use 1:1 motion with a wireless Nunchuk. I have been able to use any wireless Nunchuk with the Wand+ for any game that didn’t use MotionPlus, and now I can use the Wand+ with any game.
The Wand+ has always responded good for me in any game. This is the first remote I go for when I use the Wii since I bought the Wand+.

When Nintendo first unveiled its Motion Plus add-on for the Wii remote many gamers, myself included, bemoaned the idea of some odd attachment that made the controller even longer, which was why I was ecstatic when I learned that Nyko was planning to release its own remote called Wand+ with the Motion Plus technology built into it. That ecstatic feeling, however, has changed to disappointment upon purchasing the Wand+.
First the positives. The controller itself has the Motion Plus technology built in while still remaining the same size as the Wii Remote. The A, 1, and 2 buttons are larger than Nintendo’s own controller and the B button on the back is rubberized, all welcome additions. The d-pad also feels nice, despite having a square-like design in the inside corners of the pad to go along with the other button’s square looks. The controller itself also has what Nyko refers to as “soft feel”. Unlike Nintendo’s remote which has a glossy plastic finish, the Wand+ has a smooth, almost rubber-like feel to it which makes it very comfortable to hold. The lights under the 1 and 2 buttons which indicate which player is which also double as a gauge of the batteries remaining energy when the controller syncs with the system, which is a nifty touch. The Motion Plus feature works exactly like Nintendo’s official add-on, with the only noticeable difference being that the Wand+ has it built in, while Nintendo’s add-on adds significant length and weight.
All the positives, however, don’t mean much if the controllers overall function is lacking, which is where the negatives come in. The first noticeable problem is the speaker. The speaker in both the Nintendo remote and the Wand+ is mono and isn’t meant to provide amazing sound, however when comparing the speaker in both controllers the difference in quality becomes apparent. The sound from the Nintendo remote speaker is clear and crisp, with no static or distortion. The Wand+ speaker, however, is of poor quality with static and intermittent loss of sound occurring on a regular basis. Brand new batteries and volume adjustment do nothing to remedy this. It is a design flaw. Another problem is that the cursor doesn’t move as smoothly as it does with Nintendo’s remote. During fast movement you don’t notice any difference between the two controllers, but during fine, slower movement you can notice the cursor “jerking” along as you move it as opposed to being a nice, smooth motion. Lastly, the battery contacts on the back seem rather flimsy, as after replacing the batteries for the first time I was unable to play any games that required fast, powerful movements (i.e Red Steel 2) because the batteries would move out of place and cause the controller to go dead.
I sent in my Wand+ to Nyko to be replaced after the merchant that I had purchased it from ran out of stock, however upon closer inspection it appears Nyko just sent me back my original remote because all the problems I experienced, including the battery contacts, still persist. For people looking to purchase a new remote for their Wii, I recommend that they wait until Nintendo releases its Wii remote plus in the coming months, which has the Motion Plus tech built into it. At least with Nintendo, you know that you’re getting a well built, quality product.

Surprisingly, Nyko got to the “put the motion plus inside the Wiimote” idea before Nintendo did. This thing works perfectly! An excellent savings on controllers by going this route, I highly recommend them.
