My daughter is 5 is ABSOLUTELY LOVES this game. True, the flying parts are difficult and I end up flying (and I am NOT a gamer) while she plays the player two option and helps shoot down the planes. My daughter does play the game by herself after we get past the airplanes. The nice part about this game and no one dies – they show the dog flying away attached to a balloon or Kevin and Carl getting away from the bad guy before the games resets. The game teaches players that they have to play together to win as you can not move to the next scene without the other player – helping the other player over a wall or pulling Carl up with a rope. The first few scenes of the game show help hints using monkeys to get passed an obstacle such as Carl and Russell helping each other up a cliff or Russell lowering a rope to Carl to climb up the cliff. Graphics are awesome and the characters talk to each other throughout the game. She has won the game four times (the fourth about 5 minutes ago) and she keeps on wanting to play again and again. BEST GAME EVER to show kids teamwork with minimal violence, great music, great graphics. Love IT!

One quick update – my daughter is not a wii snob as the only other game she’s been able to play without difficulty is MarioKart and that’s b/c of the wheel and the option to attach it to a table with the add on hardware. This is the first game she’s been able to use and learn to use the nunchuk. She wouldn’t play the Disney Princess game b/c she couldn’t figure out the nunchuk. She is now teaching my wife how to play and even takes her controller to show her. She’s tried to do the biplane parts by heself but its hard for her to keep the plane level while firing so I still do these scenes for her.

I, too, rented this game before chunking out $[...] for it. As mentioned above, the biplane battle is freakishly hard…even for parents! After you defeat that, if you arent so angry and frustrated and want to quit, it gets fun. My 6yo and 4yo play together and it helps with reading, teamwork and problem solving.

I agree, it should not be this hard to play for a kids game. They got to level 2 last night, then had to start over this morning with the stupid planes and do the levels over. lame lame lame.

I am glad i rented it, and love watching them play together. I doubt i will purchase it at least until the price goes down.

Parts of the game are fun, and the minigames are fun, but also freakishly hard. It just has some design flaws, as noted by previous reviewers.

I purchased this game for my 6 year old son after seeing a commercial for it on TV. It seemed like a fun, easy game that children of all ages could play.

About 5 minutes after putting it into the Wii, my son had to hand the remote to my husband because the game was too difficult. Turns out my husband had a tough time with it as well. The part where you’re flying and trying to shoot down the other aircrafts is very hard for younger kids.

There are a few parts where my son could go forth by himself, but with great aggrivation.

The UP game is now sitting on the shelf, after an hour of play time. And neither my son, nor my husband have any incling to pull it back out.

I would definately not reccomend this game to anyone.

I did, however, give it 2 stars, as the graphics are very good and the characters have a good sense of humor when they speak.

This is obviously a game for kids, but in my case I bought it to play it with my girlfriend. She doesn’t like games very much, but since I really love them I figured that if She Loved the movie, maybe I will convince her about playing by making her play a game like this, wich is related to something she loves and easy to play… that`s what I Thought!!!

Now here is the important thing. She barely plays games but its really enjoying this game (we are at 60% of the game). She is facinated with the Wii Controls for this game, the easy gameplay and also with the characters dialogues and graphics, its just like the movie!!! She is over 20years old but its enjoying this like a kid!

I’m playing it just to spend time with her in this video game world, but I could say that I’m having a great time with this game. I`m more like Zelda, Mario, Prince of Persia, Arkham Asylum and games like that but this is ok…

    The important stuff:

** You could play it alone by yourself but that means that you will have to cotrol all characters (the old man and the kid principal) wich means that in certain points of the games you will need to swicth between one and another in order to continue and thats kind of boring when happens constanly.. (at list for me)

** The Co-op mode means that someone will use the old man and the other the Kid. At some points you will need to swith for using the Dog and it seem that in some point with the big Bird (Kevin), but I`m not sure about Kevin. That`s fun.

** It`s based on the movie but as EVERY GAME BASED ON MOVIES there are some “extra stuff” since its and adaptation for a game. For Example you will need to fight a big Snake, and a giant Cocodrile in the game, never seen before in the movie… there are several encounters with the gang of dogs and a lot of team-work required.

** Difficuly: some people said that its too dificult. What I can said is that if you are not used to play games, this will surprise you (mostly in a good way hahaha). There are many parts where you have to jump from one clift to another and that could be tricky. The Boy have the abbility of cutting ropes with his key in order to move on. Somehow there is a problem about it because even thoug the game will show you when and where to cut, if you do not place the character just in the right specific place, the boy won`t do it right and you can get stuck for minutes that will feel like a very long time… a kid will get desperate, like my girlfriend, but with pattience you could find the right spot just by trying and trying, there is no other way, the game has that issue… The first scene of the game shows Doug on an airplane shooting other dogs and torrents.. it may be a kind of tricky for kids, but its really easy, maybe this is just one of the 4 parts from the game that you could say that are “very” hard, don`t worry… it will be very boring without some challenge, right?

**Finally, I could say: characters are adorable and funny, interesting levels, not an easy-borign game, based on the movie, definitely for kids very young (so if you like teen or mature games, this is not your choice…), good extra features and if a kid get stucked (and probably they will at least few times), just help them wtih that part and they will enjoy the rest of the game. If you like Disney games, or adventure/funny games and liked the movie, this is a great choice!

My 4 stars review are because of the things already mentioned, but remember, its for young kids, your enemies are dogs and things you can step on. No one dies ever, balloons take care of everything, and weapons are your own backpack, walking stick, a whistle and things like that…

Definitely recommended considering things already mentioned, and for the Price, you won`t regreat it,

    Enjoy it and have fun!!!

My almost 5-year-old is in love with this game. However, I was hoping that it would be one that she could be fairly independent with. The reasoning skill that is required for this game does not match the age group in which the movie itself was intended for. The airplanes are very difficult for her. I had to get through that level, which also happens to be the first level. The snake part (I think level 4 or 5) is even more difficult. She gave up immediately. I tried several times to do it myself, but had to walk away out of frustration. Ultimately, we had to put it in two-player mode and my husband and I eventually got through it. Overall, it is a funny and cute game. We got the Wii over Christmas and this has been the only game so far that she just insists upon playing nonstop.
