What a great WII game. We’ve played Zelda and a few others, and while Mercury Meltdown may not cost $50 and may not be a big, Hollywood-style release, it is a wonderfully addictive, puzzling game. It is keeping this 47 year old and his 12 year old daughter up late on school nights.

All WII games should be this good. Can’t tell you how disappointing it is to pay $50 for a game and get it home to find it’s totally lame. This game is a reasonable $20 and is oodles of fun.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game Kororinpa: Marble Mania which came out some months before this one, and the action in this game is pretty similar. However, it feels different enough that it’s definitely not just a level pack for that game. The blob physics add a new dimension, as does the focus on solving puzzles by changing your blob different colors, mixing different color blobs to make secondary colors, etc. It’s neat stuff. For 20 bucks this game is an absolute steal, and it’s got a lot of levels and stuff to unlock. Each level has various ways to excel and try to get a top score — beating par time, collecting all bonuses, and losing as little mercury as possible.

On the downside, so far the “party games” don’t seem to me to be truly multiplayer. But I’ve only unlocked one; I don’t know if later ones involve multiple players. Also, the tilting motions used to steer your blob around are much more constrained than in Kororinpa — no flipping the world upside down! Oh, well. Still a great game and an absolute bargain.

If you like puzzle games that require you to think a bit then this one is fun! Also takes some good reflexes and precise control of the wiimote.

I bought this along with Kororinpa and I really do like both. My friends think this one take a little too much thinking to be casual though :)

In Mercury Meltdown you have to navigate your blob of mercury through a maze, around obstacles like pushers, gravity blenders, spinners, and switches, to the finish line. While making sure your blob is the right color to pass through doors and the same color as the finish line, you have to avoid schizoids, mercoids, spectroids, and jerkoids. They’ll eat your blobs of mercury. If you loose too much mercury you fail the mission.

We bought this game for our 9 year old son, who loves puzzles. According to him, he likes it because of the challenging levels he has to navigate. He also finds the party games, that are unlocked when you collect a certain number of bonuses, fun. The feature that lets you save or replay certain levels has been a fun source of entertainment as well. He does think the game can be frustrating at time because of some of the obstacles.

I have not played the game, but have watched him play it quite a bit. It’s actually very fun to watch and has kept me on the edge of my seat watching him make tight turns. However, I do have one `warning’ if you’re buying it for children. According to Toy’s R Us’ website, the manufacture’s recommended age is 6 (they recommend 8). Our 6 year old can not play this game. It requires too much concentration and patience. Our 9 year old struggles with patience and the fine motor skills needed to complete most levels. I highly doubt many 6 year olds can play it without a great deal of frustration. My son gets frustrated with it very easily. With enough encouragement he’ll complete the most advance levels, but we have had a couple of occasions where we’ve asked him walk away because of his frustration. We found a couple of walk throughs online that have helped him through a couple of levels but for the most part it’s pretty easy to figure out what needs to be done to complete a level.

Over all we’ve been very happy with this game and would buy it again. At 20.00 it’s definitely worth the money.

**Note our son contributed most of the content, including background information and his personal opinions on the game.

Mercury Meltdown Revolution is a puzzle game with a simple concept, but one that requires a fair amount of skill to unlock all of the bonus material.

You control a glob of Mercury and use one of the several control schemes (Wiimote, Classic Controller etc) to tilt the screen in order to manipulate the glob.

Every challenge has a Goal that must be reached within the time limit. However things get complicated as you must frequently use items found on each level to change the color and texture of your glob to make it to the finish line.

This is a game that will certainly make you think, and ocassionally make you scratch your head. While there are some multiplayer features that get unlocked as you progress, the main gem of this game is in the single player quest.

Overall this game will not stand up to the visual rivals of the “other” Next Gen systems, however its cartoon-ish style works well within this context. The game is easy to pick up and play and offers a great deal of satisfaction with its 130+ levels.

This is a great buy for anyone looking to round out their Wii library, and at a [...] it won’t hurt you wallet.

I really like some of the fitness options that utilize the wii, however, this is not one. To begin, you can choose a quick start option, custom workouts, or set up your own fitness plan. I went to custom workouts which require you to go through a training session before you ‘play’. Quite honestly, this is not a fun game–it is slow, my movements do not read well, and I never raised my heart rate, much less broke a sweat.

You do have some choice of aerobic games (which have nothing to do with cardio boxing) as well as some core work.

I am not impressed with this ‘game’. I would rather work out with a fitness DVD; at least it would be more effective.

I was disappointed with this game. I thought it would be a better workout like EA sports active. The music is poor, the moves are slow and too much stopping between sessions. Gold’s Gym is a better cardio boxing and GG records your movements better than this does. Maybe after I use it more and get through all the workouts I will like it better, but right now it is a disappointment

The game doesn’t track well with your movements, making it frustrating to use. Spend a little more and get the EA Sports Active-More Workouts–which is well worth the cost.

I was very excited when I saw the preview for this game… The price was right too. I popped it in and noticed the graphics are a bit well, cheap. I started my first work out of step aerobics and really enjoyed it. Then it moved on to cardio boxing. What a clunky, poorly made game. It barely recognized moves, and if you don’t do a move correctly during the demonstration it makes you do it over and over and over and over and over again- until the game feels you’ve done it properly…which would be fine if I was actually doing the move incorrectly- but again- the game doesn’t recognize movement the way it should. I figured I would just do the step which is what I got it for anyway…yeah..how I wish.. It has a “squat” move in it – which for whatever reason it doesn’t think I do it right, it’s a squat.. I’ve done it on the wii board, off the wii board..it doesn’t care..refuses to recognize that I’ve done it. I’m done with this game, It’s going on Ebay tomorrow. I’d rather do the boring step aerobic “class” & cardio boxing on EA Sports and Wii Fit Plus for 20 minutes.. the graphics, music and recognition is far better.

This game does have a lot of potential..they need to do a lot more work on it..

I happen to be a fan of the Gold’s Gym Wii fitness game that concentrates heavily on boxing–because it’s a great calorie burner. I also have the DVD version of this(there is a non-Wii version of this Wii fitness “game”) and I love it. I tend to buy most fitness games that come out for the Wii and most are good or great…this, however, isn’t one I’ll keep.

While some may buy a Wii fitness game for fun of the game or health reasons, let’s face it–many of us want them for the calorie burn (which relates to the health benefits as well.) I wear a bodybugg to measure my daily caloric burn. I mention this only so you know when I discuss calories burned it’s based on scientific measurement rather than perceived exertion. Wearing this allows me to not only see how many calories I burned during a workout in comparison to other workout games and DVDs I own, but also how much it boosted my metabolism/caloric burn the rest of the day. (Such as in strength training where you burn fewer calories during the workout, but continue the burn after your workout is over.) Due to the slow nature of this game, it was one of my lowest calorie burners.

I have many of the 10 Minute Solutions DVDs and I have found many to be excellent including the regular DVD version of this one, but also many that burned no more than a regular workout so that a mere 10 minute workout burned very few calories for me…this was, unfortunately, one of the ones that fell flat.

The DVD version burned FAR more calories in the same amount of time, was less expensive, and less frustrating. The DVD version comes with great weighted gloves that I use in many of my other workouts to give me a great arm workout and it ramps up the caloric burn and builds more muscles. When I played the game version, it lagged in reading my movements and was slow, resulting in less burn, less results, and less energy output.

It felt, to me, that perhaps the “10 minute Solution” franchise jumped aboard the Wii game bandwagon due to the success of some of the workout games. However, this needs some tweaking to make it work and give you the results needed. They have some great fitness items and workouts but I can’t personally count this one among them.

I hope to see more Wii fitness games from the company but I’ll wait next time to try it out prior to purchasing…and I’ll stick with the fitness DVD version by the same title that offers more for less…more calorie burn, more toys with the weighted gloves you can use in any workout, and more results. This one I’ll give away.
